Photographers SEO – Top 4 Tips

Advantages of SEO for Wedding Photographers

Are you running a photographer business or a wedding that is looking to get consistent leads and customers?

Do you want to have more photography assignments REGULARLY every single week?

Are you posting or boosting in Facebook almost every single day you in your beautiful Facebook page and still get very disappointing results?

I have a piece of great news for you!

Provided you are a running a photography business, let me show you some basic steps to use Google and ranked in Google Singapore so that you can have about 20-40 enquiries every week!

(By the way, you know it really works, because somehow you managed to Google and reach this page! LOL)

BTW, just to introduce myself, my name is Dougles Chan, I have been doing SEO for over 15 years and one of my focus client is wedding videography and also wedding photography. One of my wedding videography clients is Forte Visual and they are ranked number 3 in the keyword “actual day wedding videography” in Google.com! Not too bad, considered it is in .com, not .com.sg.

Before we begin, I would like to share a SECRET, and this is very important….

Most photography business owners DO NOT DO SEO. Many used traditional and referral marketing to get leads and clients.

So what is so great about this?

Let me explain, please read it carefully. It will make a HUGE difference in where your photography business will land.

80% of the photography business or photographer DO not do SEO, either they do not know, they do not believe, they have no time or simply they are not able to afford the cost of SEO, it can easily take about $8,000-$15,000 a year to outsource SEO to someone like myself.

The 20% of the photography business owner who does SEO, 80% of them will not generate the results they are looking for, reasons are that likely hood, they used the wrong methods of doing SEO, outsource to the wrong SEO consultant or they failed to take into account the marketing and branding process for SEO, there are other reasons why a SEO campaign will not work, I will cover them in another topic.

So averagely only 4% of the photographer business really make money from SEO

Step 1: Choosing your website platform

It is important to be careful on what platform you are using to publish your website, some of the common ones are WIX, Weebly, WordPress, HTML or even adobe.

My recommendation is that when possible, stick to Wordpress. Wordpress is the most user-friendly for Google SEO and is the most popular publishing platform.

If you choose the wrong platform, and if you are competing with other photography business or another photographers in Singapore, your ranking likely will not outrank them, when you are not above your competitors, your enquiries send to your mobile phone or email will get lesser.

Step 2: Choosing the Focus

Here is a tricky situation, I notice many of the photography company or photographers are doing the same thing, they put many services in their website, not only they do wedding photography service, they also do corporate photography service, product photography , wedding photography service and even photo booth!

And yes, those creative ones will add other services such as event organizing, wedding planner, catering……You get my point…

But to be very honest, this is not the best way to do things. Here are 2 directions I can share with you:

  • Google loves websites that has only 1 focus, the better the ranking it will get. But you will argue, I am doing wedding what…..no no, hear me out, I need you to be laser focus, throw away everything else. If you are doing event photography , just focus on event photography ONLY and Google would love to rank your website higher because it will please the users who are searching for anything that relates to wedding photography. That is the reason why my website www.dougleschan.com focus on one thing only – SEO, nothing else…LOL and Google loves it…. and that is how you get to this page and read this information, anyways lets move on.
  • From the customer point of view, if you are the lady that is going to get married, do you want to get a photography that specialized in photography or someone that is the jack of all trade, someone that is also doing corporate photography service, product photography , etc…The lady would love to have the best wedding moments captured by the expert, the specialist, not someone who knows everything…. seriously~~

Step 3: Your Website Content

I know you would love to showcase all your videos on your website but mind you. SEO is still very much in TEXT based, yes, there are images and videos too, not saying that videos are BAD but I will cover how to use video on step 4.

Many of the Google searches is in TEXT based, hence, make sure your photography website is filled with a good number of relevant text.

When I mentioned relevant text, meaning that whatever “keywords” you are focusing on.

If you are focusing on the keyword – wedding photography, make sure the word “Wedding photography” is inside the content, at least 2-5 times in different places. it can be in any “order”, not a big issue.

If you can put the text on other pages, that will be good too.

If you are choosing more than 5 to 10 keywords above, then it gets a little complex, but anyhow, see below on how you should do the text layout.

Example of how it to write your text on your website

Title: Best photographer in Singapore (Correct)

Title: Best photographer Singapore (Wrong), the grammar does not make sense, so write for the users to read, not for the Google robot to crawl.

Title: Wedding photographer Singapore (Wrong), it does not make sense at all. Even though plenty of SEO expert said you should put the entire EXACT keyword on the content.

Step 4: Upload Your Videos

Yes, you will also need to upload some of the videos you have done for other wedding couples and showcase your ability, choose the best few and put them in the HOME page of the website.

Upload another few in another page of your website so that you have many touch point to the viewers, good for SEO too.

Remember to add about 100 – 200 words of text per video.

Here is a tricky question, should you upload your website to Youtube and embedded them in your website or directly upload in your photography website?

Things to consider:

When you upload to youtube:

  1. Additional exposure, if your video is popular, and if you do create a backlink to your website, it will benefit your website in terms of ranking
  2. Loading time will be lesser (Good for SEO)
  3. You are making Google happy because you use Youtube (Google bought over Youtube)
  4. The video may lead to other competitor videos via youtube
  5. Youtube may terminate your account or delete your videos if there are many complaints

When you upload to your own hosting:

  1. It takes some time to load, not too good user experience.
  2. It will take up space for your hosting if you have a small budget for hosting, not recommend
  3. Complete ownership
  4. Not easy for competitors to upload your proprietorial videos

Well, there are no fixed rule saying which method is the best, it will be very much up to your own preferences.

Step 4: Promote Your Wedding photography Website

Here is the toughest part, you need to promote your website to many platforms, such as Facebook, Linkedin, emails, SMS, whatapps…..and build some backlinks by yourself or outsource the entire process to a third party. It may take a few months of the promoting activities to make your website see some lights and start to get enquires, usually, when any photography company asks me to help their SEO, I will tell them will take about 3-6 months to see anything interesting.

Promote your website regularly but not spamming, it will help in the organic growth of your photography website rankings.

Cheers and good luck in your SEO thing!

Hiring An SEO Constultant – 10 Reasons Why You Should

It crosses every webmaster’s mind anytime they see an ad or an email for search engine marketing. Many small business owners wonder what they’re missing by not doing it. So should you hire a consultant? Search engine traffic make up at least 85% of all traffic to a website. So of course, search engine optimization is very important. But what, if any, will be the consequences of doing it yourself? Would it be beneficial to a website owner to hire a professional SEO consultant, or just plod along and hope that they are doing it right? This is a valid dilemma to face, and I will show you why it should be an easy decision. There are ten reasons why hiring them would be to your benefit.

1. Time

Search engine optimization takes great amounts of time. Research, linking strategies, directory submissions, and page analysis alone are hugely and painstakingly time consuming. Do you, the small business owner, have the time required to give search engine optimization your full attention? Or do you need to be spending your time elsewhere; such as running your business? An SEO consultant has the time to dedicate fully to your project. That’s what they do.

2. Writing Copy

Many webmasters, when beginning to design a website, concentrate on design, graphics, and a lot of the fancy code to make a website pretty. Many webmasters write their content copy almost as an afterthought.

What actually generates listings in the search engines is what your website has to say. When a potential visitor is searching the web, they use words to find what they need. So you need words to get your site in those search engines. And this means writing content-rich copy. Your website text should be the most important aspect of your website, and not last on the list. Yes, people are visually stimulated. Search engine spiders are not. In fact, all spiders only take into account the text on your page. A search engine spider cannot read what useful information you may have put into an image or into a video. And relying upon that ALT tag to get those spiders to understand what is in your image is quite an illusion. Lately, some of the spiders are skipping the ALT tags altogether, as a few unethical webmasters and SEO companies have tried to manipulate this area of a webpage with keyword stuffing. (Keyword stuffing is the needless repetition of a keyword or keyword phrase in order to get higher ranking on search engines.) It only takes a few bad apples to ruin the entire barrel. I’m not telling you to completely disregard the ALT tag, but if you rely solely on this to get a search engine spider to understand what your page is about, you will fail.

So if text is so important, why would you place this at the bottom of your priority list? A good SEO consultant has the experience with what content is relevant to your site, and just how to say it. Sometimes, an SEO expert will even outsource this job to a professional writer. This makes complete sense, as this is the most important aspect of any website.

3. Expertise

A good SEO consultant knows that there are up to 100 things that a search engine will factor in to determine how useful and important your website is, and thereby ranking it accordingly. You can rely upon your SEO consultant to be familiar with all aspects of these factors. SEO is not rocket science by any means, but careful planning, research and plugging those factors into a page can be a delicate process. If you are unsure about how your efforts will turn out, then you can feel comfortable knowing that your SEO expert knows what they are doing. Do you? SEO consultants can act quickly to the ever-changing world of optimization. They don’t rest on their laurels and expect that one avenue of advertising is going to improve your traffic rank. There is no secret formula to magically making your site appear at the top of the search engines. What there is, however, is strategic planning and research, along with tried and true methods of optimization.

4. Long Term Effect

Pay per click (PPC) advertising is extremely popular, as it is relatively flexible within the web site owner’s budget. But the minute you stop paying for those clicks is the minute that the traffic stops. PPC makes a great short term solution, or even a supplemental addition to regular traffic, but you can’t expect that this will suffice for the long term. This is why search engine optimization is so vital to the life of a website. Sure, you may be paying for that SEO consultant’s services now, but once their job is done, you can expect your traffic and conversion rates to continue long after your SEO consultant has gone on their way.

5. Search Engines are Unforgiving

You need to get it right the first time. Search engine optimization, while ever-changing, is not trial and error. The information you find on the internet is not always accurate, and you may take one piece of bad advice and find yourself banned forever. Is this a risk you are willing to take? An SEO expert knows exactly what to do, and what NOT to do. There are a lot of techniques that webmasters used to use that would skyrocket them to the top of the search engines. Now, those same techniques are definite banning offenses in the world of SEO. Your consultant will know the difference. SEO is a puzzle of research, research, and more research. One wrong puzzle piece and the entire picture is in jeopardy.

6. Budget Guidance

A search engine optimization firm can guide you in where your resources should go. Whether you have only a small marketing and advertising budget, or the sky’s the limit, your SEO consultant can get you the most bang for your buck. To experiment with your resources on advertising avenues through trial and error is very risky and will be very expensive. Your SEO consultant can save you the headache and heartache of risking your hard earned cash on experimental advertising, as well as hundreds, maybe even thousands, of dollars.

7. Product Knowledge

If one search engine could deliver all the traffic alone to your site, then you wouldn’t need an SEO consultant. You wouldn’t need to invest time, money or energy in research either. But there are so many search engines out there, and one may be better than another to target traffic to your individual niche. You can rely on your SEO consultant to know where you can receive your qualified traffic.

8. Fresh Perspective

If you’ve developed your website yourself, or even if you have hired a web designer and developer, chances are that you’ve been looking at it long enough to have possibly missed a few things. Now, we are certainly not trying to demean your work or that of your developer. Quite to the contrary: you’ve heard that saying, two heads are better than one? Well 5 heads are better than two, and so one. Each new team member that you bring in to concentrate on their area of expertise can bring enlightenment every time. It’s always good to get a fresh perspective, and an SEO consultant can bring that to your site.

9. Effective Keyword Analysis

You need to know exactly the right word combinations that will bring qualified visitors to your site. Even with search engines like Goto or Yahoo! Directories, where you can buy your rankings, knowing the right keywords can end up saving hundreds or thousands of dollars in unqualified click through charges. An SEO can find these for you. Gone are the days that you could just put a bunch of words into your meta tags, and a visitor could type that word into the search engine, and your site appears in the listings. Search engine algorithms are far more complex, and you can actually hurt your rank by including the wrong key phrases.

10. Value and ROI (Return On Investment)

Dollar for dollar, search engine optimization is still the most cost effective way to market your website, so your money is well spent with an SEO consultant. Do you pay now for long term effects, or do you pay over time for short term, immediate results. Within a short period of time, you will find that you’ve eventually spent the same amount of money, but with the short term solutions, like banner advertising, Overture, or Google AdWords, you have to KEEP paying in order to achieve the same results, thus by passing the investment you could have made with an SEO consultant. So in short, search engine optimization pays for itself quickly. An investment into the long reaching effects of search engine optimization will pay you back many times over.

The Bottom Line

For every 100 of your current visitors, 85 of them will find you through search engines. Unless you have lots of time, understand exactly how the search engines work, can write effective copy and key word combinations, can sort through all the misinformation on how to correctly market your site, and can get it all right the first time without spending a dime, then you need an SEO consultant for the long term rewards that search engine optimization can bring you. Your investment in the future of your website will be worth while. You’ll be glad you did.

The Ultimate Guide to Rank #1 in Google Singapore in 2020

Index – The Ultimate Guide to Rank #1 in Google Singapore

1) Target The Correct Keywords

2) “Singapore” appearing in Domain name

3) Local Singaporean Style

4) SEO Kiasu Techniques

5) Pinterest is KING

Thank you so much for coming into my website www.dougleschan.com and read more on SEO Singapore Guide.

This website www.dougleschan.com focus very much on using Kiasu Marketing Techniques and SEO Singapore strategies and tips for website owners, SME Singapore businessmen, and digital marketing personnel.

Of course, if you do not belongs to any of the group mentioned above, you are welcome to read this article too!

If you do not know what is SEO, don’t read this, or you can Google what is SEO first… if you continue to read on, you will be blur like sotong!!!

If you have some basis on what is SEO, read on…

Are looking to rank your website to #1 in Google Singapore, then you have come to the right place.

In this exclusive article, I will give you a huge list of strategies that I have done to rank many of my websites and my client websites to #1 in Google Singapore in 2018.

All these tips I have personally tried, tested, re-tested and proven to be very effective.

By being number 1 in Google Singapore with the correct targeted market, it automatically brings many target audience and customers to your website.

With correct landing page and persuasive “selling”, with thousands of visitors coming to your website every single day, you will be able to generate a lot more leads and sales for your company and website.

[ps2id id=’pointer-1′ target=”/]

1) Target the Correct Keywords and Group

It is so so so so…… important that any website owners will do extensive research on the correct target keywords, it is like setting a direction for the company.

If the target is wrong, no matter how you are ranked in Google Singapore, you will never get a decent traffic to your website.

And even if you are getting thousands of people going to your website every single day, you be surprised there aren’t any inquiries on your website!

With over 15 years of SEO activities, I have seen so many websites owners are using the wrong group of keywords that make their website ranked number 1 and yet not getting the leads they are looking for.

Here is the statistic basing on my findings – Average of 93% of the websites I have come across have not done the correct keyword research, even reputable SEO agencies in Singapore are also facing the same problem.

What does that REALLY mean?

That mean even the top SEO agencies in Singapore are not getting the right keywords for their clients, so how do you expect them to help any of their clients?

This information is quite shocking and yet, many SEO agencies in Singapore continue to have this problem and made many clients invested in SEO services packages and because of that, many of them are not making money from the SEO service that they have invested.

In turns, most of the companies and website owners are NOT getting results in SEO itself.

The reason is that they are not focusing on the correct keywords to start with. If the SEO project manager is giving you the wrong focus, then the SEO campaign will likely not yield any good results.

Be extremely careful that some SEO project manager knows you are not in the SEO industry and may resort to suggesting keywords that are of low competition and yet extremely low search volume.

And they will give you plenty of reasons to justify their “wrong” approach!

By doing so, they are able to rank your keywords easily and account for the task of getting your website to the top 3 and yet there are no visitors.

[ps2id id=’pointer-2′ target=”/]

2) “Singapore” appearing in Domain name

To rank well in Google Singapore, your domain name when possible should have a Singapore in it.

Of course, you can also get a .com.sg or .sg domain, usually, it is more expensive and the paperwork is more complex, my personal preference is a .com domain, easier and faster.

Example 1:

www.laptoprepairsingapore.com. This domain focus in providing a list of laptop repair vendors in Singapore, instead of people going to various places to source for a reliable laptop repair vendors in Singapore, this website had done extensive research to list out the reliable laptop repair vendors.

This domain, which I have created around the end of 2017, with some search engine optimization, I am able to get it to the first page within 4 months in Google.com.sg, basing on the top keyword “Laptop Repair Singapore.”

As you can see, it is already ranking below hardwarezone.com.sg, it is actually a compliment to laptoprepairsingapore.com because hardwarezone is one of the pioneers in forum discussion and worth millions of dollars in values!

So imagine if laptoprepairsingapore.com is always hovering beside hardwarezone or even ranked better than hardwarezone, how will the value and perception of laptoprepairsingapore.com?

I think you are getting to my points….

Of course, the activities you are doing for SEO should be as natural as possible, always remember that Google loves organic content, natural and not too PUSHY, there is no need to push too hard in SEO, the more you push, the worst ranking it can be.

But having said that, being relevant is important, over putting “Singapore” or the “keywords” that you are targeting as a keyword in your website, title page, descriptions will also be a NO-NO.

Example 2:

1st Page in Google.com.sg for SEO Reseller Singapore keyword within 1-2 weeks

www.seoresellersingapore.com This domain focus basically tells by itself, it deals in SEO reseller in Singapore.

Hence, objectives of the website are to attract people who are interested to become a reseller for SEO in Singapore to approach us to resell the services or refer business to us.

Basically, it is a very targeted audience and with very little search volume, it this case, we are already ranked number 6 within 10 days after the domain is registered.

If you notice the 2 examples above, the key phases and the domain name are actually the same, this is a very old method of doing SEO and it can be very interesting and yet FATAL.

Google knows what these guys are doing and the tricks they are using.

However, the fundamental still remains, as long as you have relevant and quality content with people liking it, sharing it and commenting about it in forums, social media, and many other platforms, your domain will still rank high up there.

** However, if you provide minimum quality to the website in terms of content and poor user experiences, not only your website will not be rank, it will be penalized!

Penalised in terms of not ranking at all or even ranked far far away… LOL, so be very careful about this.

[ps2id id=’pointer-3′ target=”/]

3) Local Singaporean Style

If your target audience is in Singapore, then the way you write ought to be in Singaporean STYLE. Probably the using of Singlish will help to make the website more localized.

This will also make the readers feel more friendly and able stay on the website longer. Remember that with that Singlish feeling, people will feel bonded and feel closer to you, even though it is just a website or article.

Once you are able to bring the level closer, people will start to love what you are writing, and trust will begin to build your brand and the potential clients.

When trust is slowly built, the reader will read further and this will in turns increase dwelling time, for a detailed understanding of what is dwelling.

With a better dwelling time, it is telling Google directly that your webpage is important and deserves more respects and exposures, and your ranking in Google.com.sg will improve gradually naturally.

Time will take care of everything in your rankings.

[ps2id id=’pointer-4′ target=”/]

4) SEO Kiasu Techniques

Let us be a little KIASU in SEO Singapore, alright, mind my “words”, you need to be a little KIASU, not over KIASU, because being over KIASU will not just make your ranking drop than to rank it higher in Google search engine.

How to be Kiasu in SEO:

Social Media Kiasu

When you do social media marketing for your website or article, go for Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Plus, Digg, etc…

The purpose is to SPREAD your social media to be seen in more than just one social media accounts so that you will be able to build your foundation of SEO WIDER, once your base is WIDER, it will not be easy to make your ranking drop too much.

The purpose is to build the base, with a good foundation, your ranking will be stable in case of any changes in Google algorithm.

In the event of any changes in Google algorithm, your Google ranking will not fluctuate too much.

Keyword Focus Kiasu

Most SEO agencies will suggest starting about 10 keywords to start with for your SEO campaign, this is actually quite dangerous because, in any minor changes in Google algorithm, changes in competition or habit change in the search pattern, your effort in SEO will go down the drain easily.

I would suggest for a start at 30 keywords in SEO, if better, go for 50 keywords, spread the focus on the keywords to short tail or long tail keyword.

As long as it belongs to the same category and same page optimization, it should be fine.

Do not make a mistake of optimizing 30 keywords and each of them has a unique landing page, that will be committing suicide for SEO marketing.

Ideally, it should be about an average of 15-20 keywords per landing page.

Awareness Kiasu

Well, so you have a very interesting website or an article, the next step is to let as many people know about your webpage as much as possible, you can do the following to let many people know about your webpage and send them the URL link:

  • Sent SMS, whatsapp, Line, QQ, Viper, WeChat and Telegram and let your friends know about the article
  • Email to your contacts about the webpage you have created
  • Collect all the business card you have collected, compile them and tell them about it.
  • Announced to social group such as church, community clubs, business networking group, etc
  • Volunteers in different events or activities that related to the website you are promoting
  • Attend seminars, talks, and workshops on related topics
  • Print the link on your business card
  • Put the link in your Header Description such as Wechat, Whatapps
  • Create related group chat in whatsapps, Line, wechats
  • The idea is to let as many people know about this…yes this is Kiasu in action!

[ps2id id=’pointer-5′ target=”/]

5) Pinterest is KING (Huh, what is Pinterest? It is Pronounced as pin-terest)

The more relevant graphics you have on your webpage, the more interesting your webpage is going to be, remember that more people are a visual person, they like to see graphics that illustrate your points.

Having visual also makes your webpage have more depth and will let user believes that you have actually spent more time and effort to create a better content for the readers.

Pictures give great backlinks – Yes, for example in Pinterest.com, it is a social media where people can pin to their Pinterest account and every PIN itself is a link!

And Pinterest is generating so many links for my website dougleschan.com in some topics that some of the top keywords are already ranked top 3 in Google without me doing anything!

Alright, here you go, the ultimate guide to rank #1 in Google Singapore in 2020. Hope this helps your Google SEO ranking.
