Microsoft firstly introduced Surface six years ago and that was their first major initiative to integrate its Windows operating system with its own hardware. As it was first PC designed by Microsoft, it was distributed solely by them. Year later, second line of Surface, this time it was based on the Intel architecture, was available under name Surface Pro. Pricing for Surface Pro was comparable to ultra-booksreleased around that time. Like first line, it was initially available only at Microsoft Stores retail and online, but later its availability was expanded into other vendors. Now Microsoft is on fifth-generation of Surface Pro, second Surface Book with updated internal components and newly announced Surface Hub 2 featuring a new rotating hinge and the ability to link multiple Hubs together. Selling only at Microsoft Stores, both retail and online, is forgotten, so all these are available at Microsoft Resellers. There are Resellers on each continent, for example Microsoft Partner Singapore, Microsoft Partner England or Microsoft Partner Canada.
Fifth generation of Microsoft Surface Pro, also called Surface Pro 2017, has been getting positive reviews and is becoming more favorable than main competitor MacBook Pro. As its ancestor, it is a 2-in-1 detachable hybrid notebook computer, fully designed, developed, marketed, and produced by Microsoft. Main features of this generation are 7th-generation Intel Kaby Lake Core processors and the new Surface Pro features an enhanced kickstand which now opens to 165 degrees, allowing the device to lay flatter. It comes with three RAM options (4, 8 and 16 GB) and four SSD options (128, 256, and 512 GB and 1 TB). Another new opinion available when purchasing is Pro with an LTE Advanced modem for cellular connectivity. Besides a full-size USB 3.0 port, microSD card reader, headset jack, Mini DisplayPort, Cover Port there is also the SurfaceConnect port to connect a wall charger, Docking Station or Surface Dock accessories. When mentioning accessories, new Type Covers and an updated version of the Surface Pen, claimed to be the “fastest pen in the world” are unmissable. All models available (expect those in Japan and mainland China) cove with a 64-bit of Widows 10 Pro and a Microsoft Office 365 30-day trial. Chinese users get 4-bit version of Windows 10 Home and a Microsoft Office 2016 Home & Student edition, while those in Japan a 64-bit version of Windows 10 Pro and a Microsoft Office Home & Business 2016. Another feature of device is a Windows Hello-compatible camera that combines the use of a regular and infrared cameras to authenticate the user.
There are some known issues with this version of Surface Pro. It is proto to random shut offs when the device goes into random hibernation in the middle of computer session and after just resumes without any warning. Another issue spotted by users is so called “backlight bleed” in which black light from the screen is visible on solid-colored backgrounds. On the other side, this notebook has been receiving quite a lot of positive reviews. What most of those reviews highlight is that Windows 10 is advantageous over iOS for consumers, students and business users.
